Summer Programs

  • BRIDGE program. The College of Sciences and the College of Engineering and Architecture sponsor this annual five-day orientation workshop for incoming under-represented students in engineering, math, and science. 
  • Hispanic Youth Exploring Engineering (HY'EE) Camp. An annual four-day summer camp for students and their teachers from high schools in the Yakima Valley and Walla Walla areas.
  • Native Youth Exploring Engineering (NY'EE) Camp. Students and their teachers from high schools in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington participate in hands-on engineering and math projects, attend chemistry and physics demonstrations, and participate in various social activities.

    Charlena Grimes, academic coordinator for the Washington State University College of Engineering and Architecture, was one of 14 recipients nationwide invited to the White House in 2005 to receive a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. The award recognizes people who have mentored underrepresented students in science, mathematics and engineering. Grimes is the first-ever WSU recipient.
