Student Experience

WSU engineering students have worked on projects near home and traveled overseas to places like Sri Lanka and Sudan, and now six engineering students will travel to Kenya in May to build a much needed water pipeline.  [more]

Eating, Sleeping and Breathing Their Research

For many people, the phrase “university research” conjures up visions of professors and graduate students keenly observing phenomena, and in many instances, this is the case.  With a little help from the National Science Foundation however, undergraduates are quietly filling up the ranks as top researchers as well.  [more]

Business Plan Gives Students a Taste of the ‘Real World'

The WSU College of Business hosted its annual competition in Nov. 2007 which included 16 student teams from the Pullman and Tri-Cities campuses, represented in four student leagues, with a total of 50 students participating.  Of the four leagues, two first place finishers came from the College of Engineering and Architecture: WaterCycle and BioAccoustics Inc. [more]

Living Learning Communities Help Freshmen

Three years ago, the College of Engineering and Architecture together with the College of Sciences launched a science and engineering version of the WSU Freshman Focus program called the Gannon- Goldsworthy Living-Learning Community (GGLLC).  The idea is that by setting up a residence hall specifically for freshmen interested in engineering and science, students will not only be able to focus on their coursework through common courses and group study sessions, but that this also would increase student retention by increasing student capital, or student networks with fellow engineering students and faculty. Washington State University, students are offered opportunities both in and out of the classroom.  On WSU's residential campus, students are never more than a few minutes away from an opportunity to participate.

  • Join one of the 20-plus student clubs that organize a variety of activities, including guest speakers, field trips, and social events.
  • Get real-world experience in engineering or architecture while leading a team regionally and nationally to robotics, concrete canoe, bridge-building, chemically-powered car, or environmental design competitions.  Student groups have also build a solar-powered boat and a model airplane.
  • Work with faculty and graduate students on research projects. Several undergraduates have even published their work in scientific journals.
